Dressing up for Grocery Shopping?!?!?

Saturday runs usually happen for me sometime in the late morning or around noon, I truly enjoy the possibility to sleep in a bit. Who doesn't, right? Add in a fact that I am usually too tired to do grocery shopping on Friday evening and there isn't much left in my fridge after the week. Also, the nearest supermarket is just on the way to/from the parks where I usually run. So I do something what is totally normal in the US (as far as my knowledge goes), I go running and do the groceries on my way back home. This past Saturday, I got so many weird looks for I guess not dressing up to go to the supermarket. Can you get that? I can't and I don't care. I just wanted to share the funny story of the unfortunately absolutely consumerist society we do have here in the Czech Republic. Thinking about it, it is actually sad. And no, I am definitely not changing my habits, get used to it! ;)

On a running note, I checked the weather forecast Saturday morning and it said rain later in the afternoon, so I went for my run just after the breakfast = just before noon. I was so glad that I was able to finish my 5 miler before this started:

I was craving the true Italian risotto with shrimp and peas (my signature recipe :) )
for a week, so finally did it as my refueling lunch.

And this is how the garden view looked after I finished eating my lunch = approx. 30-45 min later. Crazy amounts of snow were coming down. Unfortunately it was raining again in the evening. I did not care much though, did not bother me in the hot sauna where I went for recovery and relax.

Sunday was the fourth day of my training mini-cycle = longish run, which is right now a 10 miler. Don't know how I did it, but my schedule was kind of full for the day, so I decided to do the run early in the morning. Didn't feel like getting up at 6:30 am on Sunday, but the feeling of running with the Sun rising and having finished 10 miles by 8:30 :) This meant that I was entitled to some eggs Benedict and lot and lot of french baguette with butter and home made marmelade at La Gare. The eggs were good but not typical eggs Benedict, so if you are traditional eggs Benedict lover, don't get them. On the other hand, the baguettes, croissants, pain au chocolat (croissant with chocolate) all taste like they do in France. I hope The Coach does not read this, he spoke about loosing two more pounds before the spring races ... I guess Sunday brunch does not help. But we live only once right?

What was your weekend workout?
And what were your weekend nutritional sins? :)

Jo a mě zase štvou ty Tvoje kilometráže :)

  4. I ran 5 miles with my husband and son yesterday. It was the furthest my son has ever gone so right after we went to get him new running shoes. I got the weirdest looks. Maybe people don't know what running is?? Could be the general laziness of people but I didn't care.
I'm a hairdresser and last week went to get products. Right next door from the supply shop is a bakery. The people are from Vienna and the pastries aren't too sweet like here in the US. I got a chocolate eclair and didn't feel the least bit guilty!!! It's all about balance.

    1. It is so cool to get your family on track with running. My mom went with me only once so far, but I really enjoyed it. I love sharing the passion for running.
Totally agree with you on the balance thing. You need to enjoy things and live in the moment. Enjoy your running, hairdressing, motherhood and everything :)

  5. I used to do some shopping at the nearby supermarket after the run even with my headlamp on and nobody looked weird last year... :) Or I just didn't see it .)

    1. I think it was the Saturday noon issue of people actually having the shopping as a weekend "cultural" activity ... weird :)
