Boston Time

City living with runners, that's Boston this weekend. It is basically flooded with blue and yellow people (the official colors). Arrived yesterday (Saturday) at 3:30 pm, checked in, went to the expo, walked back to the hotel, had dinner, runners are everywhere. Even at the W hotel where I am staying (thank you Dad for the great treat! Wish you were here!!!) I got this good luck treat at the check in :)

Love the sense of humor they have at the W hotels ... it's all in the tiny details :)

I got my beautiful number (11616):

The expo was pretty crazy. Didn't take any photos of the stands and everything, was too busy checking them out :) The less than two hours I had before it closed was not enough, but I am glad I went on Saturday, because even though the experience is exciting it is kind of tiring at the same time. Check the photos bellow to see what I got :D But first to the end - eg. the Boston Marathon finish line!!!

You can see I am kind of excited, right?

... fortunately I already spent everything on the running gear and marathon souvenirs :) Because the pinky stuff ... you know me, it is like a magnet!

So this is what I got!

But before the new gear fashion show, it was time for dinner - this is what I wore ... new top and jacket, old pants and Christmas gift scarf from the greatest Dad :)

Randomly picked the East Ocean City for the dinner ... pretty great choice - based on the amount of Chinese inside and the fact that English was the minor language on the menu :)

What was in the goodie bag and what did I get?

Boston marathon beer opener, cool! I need to invite some beer drinkers over for a party when I come back home, so I can use it :)

Fuel for the race - GU Chocolat Outrage (the full box) and the two Espresso Love for extra caffeine shot during the race. I won't eat the whole box during the race, taking those babies home, not easy to get them in Czech Republic.

Discovered this super cool fuel belt from iFitness at the expo - went for test drive/run with it today and it holds in place amazing!

This is the official race t-shirt (I love that it is long sleeved) and the extra cap.

And the jacket, it ain't cheap at hundred bucks, but you know, it is THE BOSTON MARATHON!

And then I got this outfit from New Balance ... it is not the official race gear, but it is so ME in the colors and such a light weight fabric, super comfy!

Last but not least, I got the number! :D

On The Way To Boston

On the train to Boston :)
The Boston Marathon is getting inevitably closer and I am trying to do my best and not loose my mind. I am just now on the train to Boston. Pretty cool, wifi access, plugs, haven't checked the food cart yet :)

Important notice: There is athlete tracking service, you can sign up here for text message (US numbers only) or email alert. My bib number is 11616!!! How cool is that?

Back to the running ... so I have been taking it easy this week although it is difficult to feel easy when you travel, have 6 hours time difference and so on. Took Sunday (flying out) and Monday (flying in) off, did 5 miles at medium pace on Tuesday, some intervals and tempo on Wednesday, easy long run Thursday (9 miles) and few fast bursts and fast short tempo yesterday. That felt ackward, but I guess that are just my nerves working on me. I do lot of stretching, yoga and  concentration excercise and I fuel myself ... seee:

Delicious Chicken Cobb salad at Le Pain Quotidien .. yumm - give me avocado and bacon on a salad and I am all yours! :)

Dinner at "Hospoda" (it means pub in the Czech language), but this place is anything like typical Czech pub, except they serve great Pilsner Urquell bear (that I don't drink). It is located at E 73rd Street btw 1st and 2nd av. and it is a part of the Bohemian National Hall. They serve what I would call a modern view on Czech cuisine :) Yummy!

Very interesting combo above: delicious scalops and in the middle extreamely tender pork served with slightly baked prune and potatoe puree.

And their signature dessert - the chocolate ball made of dark chocolate is filled with another kind of chocolate (little like a noughat) that has some see salt in it and they pour a hot white chocolate on it, so the dark chocolate ball colapses inside - very sophisticated and extremely delicious!

And a creme brulle ... great for New York City, average if you have the original French experience :)

Protein refill after my 9 miler on Thursday - family styled Italian restaurant Max in Tribecca. Their Tagliata with truffle and sage french fries? OH MY GOD!!!

I did some shopping yesterday (Friday) ... see below ... so I was pretty tired after my fast tempo run in the cold and windy weather so took it easy with a safe chocice of delicious French food at Cercle Rouge ... carrot and gigner soup and salmon with steamed spinach. I am trying to go really smart on the nutrition which is pretty damn hard in the NYC with all the delicious restaurants around!

Girls, wanna hear about the shopping? Went for a lunch to the World Financial Center - met my great friend Guillaume - who is actually the one to "blame" when we talk about my running ... He was the one who made me sign for my first half marathon :) Thank you Guillaume! Great to see you again! So the World Financial Center is just few steps from the well known Century 21 .. originally, I wanted to get myself some cheap throw away clothes for the pre-start time. I got none of those, but lot of other cool stuff! Eg, I am digging this leather jacket, I am sorry I cannot let you touch it over the blog, because it so smooth and soft. Yay! Few dresses, some sweaters. I think I am coming back for more when my girlfriends fly in after I come back from Boston :D :D :D

Any tips for me on how not to get crazy until Monday morning??? Motivation? Mantras? Advice from those who already done the race? Thank you guys!

Flying to The City

As I explained in the previous post, I was flying to NYC through Moscow, here are few photos from the journey. The Aeroflot's business class was amazing and I got to the NYC in better shape than ever :)

This would be the seat, that you can make completely horizontal - your small bed on the plane, I slept like 5 hours, watched James Bond and ate for the rest of the flight :D :D :D

I love that thay actually have L'Occitane as the cosmetics in the on board package you get.

Yep, there was quite some snow at the airport in Moscow!

Beautiful touch - you get a rose as a part of "table" set-up ... not even mentioning the salmon, caviar etc. :) Yum!

Salad was just normal, good dressing though.

No comment on the fish, there wasn't anything else left :(

I made up my own dessert combo: dark chocolate (that was beyond delicious) and Argentinian red wine - also beyond delicious :)

After sleep / pre landing snack ... also yummy!

A small welcome drink before landing :)

And these are already cool fitness gadgets waiting for me to try out :)

Welcome drink in The City!

@Cercle Rouge ... yummy ... great tip to try French cuisine ... most of the people are French and/or speak French!

On My Way ...

Wow, so this is a long journey... I am really happy that I am flying out on Sunday night so I could have my last longish run on Saturday, do some cleaning, have Sunday bfast with my dad and even squeeze in an afternoon nap.

I am trying to take care of my body so this is first time I am flying out not completely stressed out... I am using my miles that were to expire so business class treat for me. Unfortunately there are no more direct flights from Prague to NYC and the only business available was through Moscow, which means that I am practically 18 hours on the way - by back and neck is not liking this too much :( Lot of yoga and stretching time for me in NYC.

I know I didn't talk much (or not at all) about getting ready for Boston. I have lot of miles under my belt (over 500 this year) and have worked a lot on my core (OK I could do more, but I did more than any of the training cycles before). I am beyond excited, with little more than 2 weeks of vacation I have one week to suck in the time change and relax, I run the race and then one amazing week of crazy exciting things in NYC!!!

Greetings from Moscow airport... Unfortunately the airport lounges aren't much welcoming for paleo diet :(

Who will be in Boston??? Any meet ups???

Isn't he the cutest thing??? It broke my heart leave my running buddy at home :(

Škoda ready for Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics ... I hope these will be my first winter Olympics to see live.

Lounging ... Bloody Mary at 4 am??? Yep! It is a good luck and must to have a drink before the flight (I didn't take any photos in the Prague's Airport Lounge as it was really really poor ... it is getting worse every time I fly :( ).

iPad for movies, PC for work, no I am not eating those sandwiches, just the cheese and ham :)
